XBox 360 Repair - Do It Yourself Repairs
56I have owned an Xbox 360 for over a year now but have hardly played it ever
since my drive stopped reading discs. I visited a number of websites and people
that were supposed to be experts on this type of thing but they all said that
the Xbox DVD Drive was something they knew nothing about. I then came across
Justin Gourley who is like a go to guy for everything related to Xbox 360’s
drive. I purchased his latest book entitled ‘Xbox 360 DVD Drive repairs’ since
one of the problems his book addresses is how to fix a drive that has a problem
reading discs. Incidentally this is probably the only book available today that
covers how a regular person without any prior electronics knowledge can repair
an Xbox’s drive on their own. Anyway, here is the website for the guide.

Now the book
covers almost every problem you might stumble upon during the time you own an
Xbox 360. Problems such as disk errors, Open Tray Errors on your dashboard,
unreadable disc problems, play DVD error, blinking green light, and tray issues
etc. After I downloaded the book I took apart my 360’s drive and followed the
instructions and illustrations in it. To my surprise the book was 100% accurate
and even though it stated that a BenQ drive is particularly difficult to repair
I still managed to follow the instructions and repair my drive which is a BenQ
drive incidentally in less than two hours. Now I’m not a person that usually
tinkers with stuff so if I’m able to fix my Xbox’s drive successfully anybody
should be able to do so.
Now apart from covering how to fix almost every
Xbox 360 drive related issue the book also covers what you should avoid doing to
your Xbox 360’s drive. The list is pretty compressive and acts as a warning for
anyone who wants to get a little wild with their system without knowing what
might happen. Towards the end of the book general errors are explained many of
which are related to the laser of your drive and the solution of which is to
mostly replace your laser which too is described in great detail in this book.
This can be considered sort of like a trouble shooting guide that can be helpful
in pinpointing a specific problem with your drive.
This book comes
highly recommended by me to anyone who owns an Xbox 360 regardless of the fact
that they may have a problem or not simply because you never know when a problem
might hit you and it is at that point that this book can become invaluable. The
book only costs a few dollars compared to possibly hundreds of dollars you can
stand to earn by simply repairing the drives of friends and family members not
to mention the money you will save. The book makes good use of pictures, and
words making it easy for almost anyone to follow. All that Justin Gourley asks
of you is to read though the rather short book prior to attempting any repairs.
